12-year-old Jaden Wheeler and 11-year-old Amaya Selmon are quite the entrepreneurs! They operate Kool Kidz Sno Konez and are the youngest food truck operators in Memphis Tennessee! Their mother, Katrina Robinson, encouraged them to start a business after she tired of them always asking for money. They started out selling sno-cones in their front yard, enlisting neighborhood kids to stand on busy streets and flag down customers. In those first two summers they earned $1000. Seeing their success, Robinson stepped in and bought an old van on Craiglist so they could grow their business.

The truck mainly operates on weekends, with Jaden in the kitchen, Amaya at the window and Ms. Robinson driving. They currently offer 20 flavors of ice – including Barack O’Bubblegum, Marga-rrrrrrrr-ita, and Purple Rain – plus hot dogs and nachos.

The truck has been so successful that the kids are now talking about franchising! You can read the whole story here.

I think it’s awesome when kids are empowered to try things like this.

Moms, what are your thoughts?
